Eames Lounge Chair for the Feinn Family

As is the story with most well loved and well used furniture, pieces are apt to fail. Such is the case with this customer’s Eames Lounge Chair. One of the four rubber suspension pads that fastens the back rest to the seat bottom became detached, thus rendering the chair unusable and in that condition making the rest of the chair prone to breakage in which repairs would be far more costly and time consuming.

The first stage of the repair consisted of dis-assembly of the right arm of the chair, re installing the detached suspension pad with industrial epoxy, (what appeared to be used in the original building of the chair) and putting it all back together.

The next stage of the repair consisted of replacing a couple of the buttons in the cushions of the seat bottom and the cushion of the ottoman. This can be done a couple of ways. Either new re-manufactured buttons can be purchased or new buttons can be made by an upholsterer. This customer preferred the buttons be ordered.

Refinished teak table for Feinn Family:

Most of this project was hard labor. The entire exposed surface (under side of the table included) of the table was sanded down beginning with 60 grit sand paper, and finished with 320 grit. The chair arms were finished with 600 grit sand paper. Then two coats of natural teak oil were applied to restore the original color, and natural weatherproofing. No urethane stains or finishes were used in theis project
